The Director of Research is an appointed anesthesiology faculty with responsibility over the Department of Anesthesiology’s research program.
The Director of Research reports to the Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology who provides broad direction for the program ensuring that research activities and processes advance the academic mission of the Department, while maintaining alignment with Cooper’s vision and mission.
Administrative, teaching, mentoring, and creative activity are expected duties of this position. Also expected are hospital and medical school service responsibilities as directed by the Department Chairman.
More specifically, the Director is responsible for the development and administration of the Anesthesiology Research Program which includes securing of funding from industry and other extramural grants, the hiring and supervising of research staff and trainees, and budget and operations of the Division.
The Director shall mentor anesthesiology residents, fellows, students, and faculty engaging in research while providing support for investigator initiated departmental research projects and funded grants.
The Director of research must have good working knowledge of human and animal research regulations and be able to ensure that staff, trainees, and faculty engage in the proper conduct of research.
The Director of Research is responsible for overseeing the overall research compliance of the Department of Anesthesiology’s Division of Research.
