Provide therapeutic and diagnostic support for research animals
Perform routine, emergency and research specific surgical procedures
Provide training for animal users, students, residents, animal care staff and technical staff in the humane care and use of laboratory animals.
Assist with staff training and technical proficiency evaluations
Serve as an active voting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and participate in IACUC, AAALAC, and USDA site visits and inspections.
Consult on surgical and medical procedures used in research including anesthetics, analgesics, tranquilization, and euthanasia.
Consult with and advise principal investigators, project personnel, managers and staff on protocol preparation and regulatory requirements.
Oversees the preventive medicine and enrichment programs
Participate in the weekend and holiday veterinary coverage
Oversee the controlled substance logs and animal medical records
Assist with assigning veterinary support to veterinary staff
Scheduled Days / Hours: M, T, W, Th, and F; Education:DVM Required
Current license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state and obtain NJ license and DEA license within a year of employment
ACLAM diplomate or eligible
