Short Description

Manages the daily operation of treatment planning responsibilities for the dosimetry staff and manages daily activities for the medical dosimetry staff and students. Provides input to leadership regarding performance of the medical dosimetry staff and conducts yearly performance reviews on all dosimetry staff. Teaches applied aspects of medical dosimetry to staff and dosimetry students and were responsible for designing a treatment plan carrying out dose calculations based on the radiation oncologists prescribed course of radiotherapy or brachytherapy.  

 

 

Experience Required

At least 5yrs as a Medical Dosimetrist.  1yr Supervisory experience preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Graduate of a JRCERT (Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology) accredited Medical Dosimetry Program.  OR
  • Significant dosimetrist experience (20 years or more) with on-the-job training (OJT).  AND
  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.

License/Certification Requirements

MDCB (Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board) Certification.

Special Requirements

  • Required to maintain MDCB certification by obtaining 50 MDCB Continuing Education (CE) credits every 5 years.
  • Must have outstanding knowledge about human anatomy and physiology, tumor pathology, radiobiology, radiation dose calculations and terminology, computer applications and technology, and dosimetry techniques, and procedures required to carry out the prescribed treatment plan.
  • Must be organized and able to work independently.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
