The Lead Technologist performs essential duties in one or more sub-specialties of the Clinical Laboratory in a highly competent manner. In addition, he/she provides technical expertise to staff and others and acts as the Manager’s designee in performing delegated tasks. The Lead Tech collaborates with the manager in making decisions in compliance with existing policies, procedures, or instructions.

Responsible for participating in the day to day activities and the work flow of the Staffing Office. Acts as a liaison between the Nurse Directors and Nurse Supervisors. Calls staff to fill openings and reviews overall schedules daily for future needs. Updates schedule on a daily basis with callouts, pulls, switches, etc. Enters upcoming schedules in Clarvia system and updates payroll Kronos system on a daily basis.
Assists the Clinical team in providing indirect patient care, plus has nonpatient care responsibilities to include but not limited to:
- Room turnover: includes taking out the trash, cleaning all areas of the OR, including the OR table, making the table up, and mopping the floor
- Gathering equipment, supplies, and instrumentation for surgical cases
- Changing OR tables when necessary
- Room set up: setting up the entire OR room for the next case or first case of the day; this includes making the bed, having necessary equipment in the room positioned appropriately for the case
- Taking specimens to the lab
- Take returns to CSP and put returns away that live in the OR upstairs.

Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
