Short Description

The Oncology Data Specialist 2 (ODS2) performs all operations of the Oncology Data Services Department to meet the requirements of MD Anderson at Cooper University Health, the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), The Joint Commission, and state regulations.

 

The work done by an ODS2 contributes to maintaining oncology related accreditation status and ensures compliance with the New Jersey State Department of Health oncology data reporting legal requirements. In addition to performing abstracting, casefinding, and follow up, individuals in the role of Oncology Data Specialist 2 work with, and provides services to, multiple departments throughout the cancer center by providing quality data for a wide variety of purposes.

Experience Required

3-5 years  - Must have at least 3 years of experience working in a hospital cancer registry that included the following: abstracting/casefinding/follow up, importing and exporting data files, data submission and edit corrections, Metriq report and query creation, tumor board coordination and other accreditation activity, and mentoring of less experienced team members.

Education Requirements

Associates Degree required, Bachelors Degree preferred Cancer Registry Management, Other Healthcare related.

 

May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience or completed years of college on a one-to-one basis.

Special Requirements

Communication – Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and coworkers
Mastery of abstracting, casefinding, and follow up. Ability to abstract all body sites proficiently utilizing standard setting resources. 
Mastery of Metriq registry software and Epic medical record.
Metriq and RCRS import, export and query and data report creation
Ability to serve as a department resource to help team members resolve issues.
Experience with Commission on Cancer and other accreditation program compliance standards. 
Demonstrate excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in the following computer applications preferred: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Ability to work remotely or onsite as needed.
