Short Description

  • Correctly performs all assigned technical procedures.             
  • Integrates quality assurance into daily workload, verifies all controls appropriately with proper documentation.
  • Performs maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and minor repairs on assigned instrumentation.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with coworkers & pathologists to assure the quality & integrity of the service. 
  • Recommends modifications to existing policies/procedures and participates in the writing of technical procedures.
  • Maintains proficiency in laboratory information systems including Reference Lab Ordering and Reference Lab Resulting.
  • Maintains organized, clean, safe, and properly stocked work area.
  • Active participation in the Medical Continuing Education Program of the department, staff development and training.
  • Provides bench direction to new or training staff members.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with existing Joint Commission, OSHA and Infection Control and Blood-Borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan and policies.
  • Demonstrates commitment to a Culture of Patient Safety and High Reliability through use of the NJ STRONG patient safety behaviors.
  • Engages in reducing unsafe practices and improving the culture of safety through implementation of best practices as appropriate for the discipline.
  • Examples of safe practices include: hand hygiene, patient identification, reliable communication of routine and critical information, universal protocol, and practices to reduce healthcare associated infections and conditions.
  • Provides additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience Required

  • Must have good communication skills and ability to work with a multidisciplinary team to include physicians, management and supervisors, etc.
  • Ability to move heavy objects; stand and walk for most of the day.
  • May be exposed to dangerous toxins, waste material, odors or fumes.

License/Certification Requirements

Certified/Registered or registry eligible through ASCP.
