Short Description

  • Keys Medicare bills into the CMS system
  • Updates system accounts, recording insurance verification, insurance changes, address changes, etc.
  • Add missing charges and NPI numbers.
  • Works the Medicare voucher daily making need adjustment to accounts to properly reflect patient responsibility amounts.
  • Shares information with co-workers as needed. Reviews the open ATB and prepares lists of accounts that need to be addressed by the other Medicare Team Members.
  • Demonstrates commitment to a Culture of Patient Safety and High Reliability through use of and promotion of high reliability principles and the NJ STRONG patient safety behaviors.
  • Engages in reducing unsafe practices and drives improvement in culture of safety through implementation of NQF and other best practices as appropriate for the discipline.
  • Demonstrates commitment to achieving the highest level of performance for external benchmarking, (e.g. Leapfrog, payor-based pay for performance, Medicare Star rating, etc.)
  • Other clerical duties as assigned.

Experience Required

  • Significant experience in all phases of hospital billing and regulations.   
  • Experience with and knowledge of computerized billing systems and other office equipment. 
  • Interpersonal skills must be well developed.
  • Should possess the initiative and the ability to set and achieve high standards of performance.
  • Ability to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn specific job duties and complete detailed work assignments.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma, college course work in accounting or business preferred
