The Art Therapist will plan, organize, and provide therapy that creates a caring and therapeutic environment, addresses mental health needs of the patient, and positively impacts the patient’s/family’s reaction to hospitalization.
The Art Therapist will promote and encourage positive coping skills for patients/their families and will provide opportunities for growth and development through art, play, learning, and self-expression.
Responsibilities
1.Provides Art Therapy services in Pediatrics, PICU, and adult Psych units
2.Facilitates therapeutic interventions, individual and in groups, to promote normal growth and development, self-expression, emotional processing, coping with hospitalization, etc.
3.Assesses the psychosocial needs of patients/families and develops or adapts the plan of care as needed
4.Documents interventions and services in a timely manner within the patient’s electronic health record
5.Works as part of the multi-disciplinary team to communicate, collaborate, and advocate for patient- and family-centered care
6.Delegates appropriate duties to Activities Assistants and volunteers, supervises affiliated practicum students as needed
7.Complies with professional, ethical, and educational standards in accordance with the American Art Therapy Association
0-2 experience required, 3-5 years of experience preferred
Experience with children or in a medical setting preferred
Masters's degree in Art Therapy
Registered Art Therapist- Provisional (ATR-P) required
Registered Art Therapist / Board Certified (ATR or ATR-BC) preferred
Must obtain provisional credential within 6 months of hire, if new grad
Skills/Qualifications
Communcation-Ability to communicate with patients, visitors and coworkers required
Knowledge of cognitive, social, and emotional development in children required
CPR-BLS preferred
