Short Description

The Director will lead initiatives to develop a leading health innovation ecosystem at Cooper University Health Care and in the city of Camden. Working with the AVP Technology Commercialization and Innovation, this role will oversee the operations of the Cooper Innovation Center, including intellectual property management, faculty and physician engagement, startup and industry partnerships, and programming. To address institutional needs, this role will grow the internal technology development pipeline through educational programs like the Health Innovation Fellowship and facilitation of collaborative efforts between the health system, funding agencies, and industry partners. The Director will work to create opportunities that aim to enable, and activate Cooper’s clinical and operational workforce, building a framework that will accelerate the development of technologies aimed to advance patient care and operations.

 

Manage the Health Innovation Fellowship program to both assist in technical, commercial, and IP aspects of Cooper technologies, as well as, providing exposure to entrepreneurial activities to the motivated student population.

 

Identify, evaluate, and advance early-stage innovations through internal funding, partnerships, or commercialization pathways.

 

Build strong relationships with academic institutions, accelerators, venture groups, and life sciences companies to bring external opportunities into Cooper and Camden.

 

Collaborate with local government, nonprofits, and economic development agencies to align Cooper innovation efforts with broader regional strategies.

 

Maintain and grow the channel of invention disclosures, licensing, startup creation, and industry-sponsored research.

 

Collaborate with other Cooper departments and external partners to promote success stories, elevate local innovations, and brand Camden and South Jersey as a rising hub for health innovation

Experience Required

3–5-year Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of the higher education research enterprise. 

 

Experience in a healthcare and/or university environment. 

 

Working knowledge of intellectual property law, major areas of scientific advancement, technology marketing, business and investment strategies, and business law and processes.

Education Requirements

Master’s Degree (e.g. Life Sciences) required;

 

Doctoral, Masters and/or JD Degree preferred, along with a minimum of 4-6 years similar industry experience within an academic medical center, university or health system.
