Short Description

  • Provides a means, wheelchair or stretcher, and transports patient to and from the required locations throughout the Medical Center, including the Morgue, in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Assists the patient care team in transferring patients safely to and from a wheelchair, stretcher and/or examination table. Provides a secondary source to hold and/or position a patient if necessary. 
  • Makes rounds throughout the Medical Center to clear hallways of wheelchairs, stretchers and other equipment.
  • Collaborates with the patient care team to maintain a safe and clean environment. Maintain infection prevention practices by sanitation of patient rolling equipment with approved germicide in between patient use. Use safe lifting procedures and practices.
  • Responsible for oxygen (O2) tank maintenance.
  • Effectively communicates with the patient care team members, patients, and families. Observes patient confidentiality and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.  
  • Responds to and follow Code Blue and Code White protocols and remains calm and objective during emergencies. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Ability to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints.
  • Ability to learn specific job duties and complete detailed work assignments.     

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent. 

License/Certification Requirements

BLS or CPR required within three (3) months of hire

Special Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry and move heavy objects.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the dexterity of hand and fingers in order to utilize tools, utensils and equipment.
  • Ability to audibly receive instructions and to hear inquiries from patients, physicians, clients and team members.
  • Ability to see and perceive depth with or without corrective lenses.
