Senior Counsel, Regulatory Compliance, is a motivated individual who believes in Cooper’s mission to serve, to heal, and to educate to improve the lives of Cooper patients and the communities it serves.
This position shall interpret complex healthcare regulations to guide organizational compliance; conduct internal investigations and risk assessments to identify compliance gaps or potential compliances breaches, and/or respond to third party inquiries; create and update corporate policies and procedures; develop and implement education programs; monitor evolving healthcare laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance; and offer legal advice on healthcare regulatory matters to Cooper management.
This is an advanced position which must work independently and collaborate with other professionals and departments. Must be able to lead projects with minimal oversight.
Senior Counsel must possess excellent legal research and writing skills in addition to having the desire, disposition, and integrity necessary to work well with fellow members of Cooper’s legal department, members of Cooper’s healthcare and administrative departments, outside and opposing counsel, and court personnel. Must project a positive attitude and foster a team approach with his or her colleagues.
Ten or more years’ experience as an attorney is required. Experience at a law firm or with the government preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of healthcare laws and regulations, such as HIPAA, Stark, Anti-kickback Statute, and False Claims Act, preferred.
Experience with Medicare/Medicaid regulations preferred.
A demonstrated ability to systematically:
A demonstrated ability and desire to work in a team-oriented collaborative environment
A demonstrated proficiency in modern legal office skills, including the use of Microsoft 365, the Internet, and Westlaw.
Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor required.
Must possess a valid NJ driver’s license.
Active bar admission in good standing and eligible for New Jersey licensure. Admission to the New Jersey Bar required within one year of employment.
