The Nursing School Critical Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients’ activities of daily living and supports the overall plan of care. This role involves direct communication with and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The position requires maintaining high standards of professional ethics and contributing to the delivery of quality patient care within the organization.
Cooper University Health Care has partnered with Rutgers School of Nursing to develop a two-year program that provides a pathway to critical care nursing for students going into their junior year of nursing school. Three selected students will rotate every three months through the Medical ICU, Trauma Surgical ICU, and Neuroscience ICU. Students must rotate to every unit and stay in the Pathway Program as a critical care technician PRN until they are ready to become a nurse.
This pathway is intended to provide the students with unique and hands-on experience in critical care. At the end of the two years, the students may be matched with one of the three units to start their nursing careers.

Requires 4 shifts (7a-7:30p) or (7p-7:30a) in a 6-week period, three of them being weekend shifts & holidays: 1 winter, 1 summer, 1 hallmark.
