Short Description

The Director of Clinical Practice and Nursing Outcomes provides strategic leadership for professional nursing practice and with collaboration of the quality department, oversees the measurement, analysis, and improvement of nursing‑sensitive outcomes across the organization. This role ensures nursing care delivery is evidence‑based, compliant with regulatory and accreditation standards, and aligned with organizational goals for quality, safety, and patient experience. The Director serves as a clinical expert, mentor, and organizational leader promoting nursing excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Provides oversight and direction for professional nursing practice standards throughout the organization. Develops/ implements and measures successful/sustainable processes for communicating/collaborating with the leadership team and clinical staff in a manner that drives and sustains successful quality outcomes.
  • Leads the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of nursing policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, and standards of care. Drives evidence-based operational changes based on data (e.g. incident reports, NDNQI data outcomes, additional nursing related quality outcomes as identified) with key stakeholders involved in patient care processes. Utilizes dashboards and analytics to support data‑driven decision‑making at the nursing leadership level.
  • Ensures that nursing specific quality outcomes data are consistently benchmarked against the most appropriate centers of clinical excellence in partnership with the Quality/Safety Management Department.
  • In collaboration with the nursing education department, ensures nursing practice reflects current evidence, regulatory requirements, and ethical principles. Communicates, reinforces, and updates environment of care related procedure (e.g. safety, security, hazardous materials, emergency, medical equipment, and utility management.) as needed to ensure the adherence to safe clinical practice that drives high quality patient outcomes. Partners with Clinical Informatics to ensure documentation supports professional practice and measurement of nursing outcomes.
  • Supports shared governance structures and nurse participation in clinical and practice decisions.
  • Promotes nursing autonomy, accountability, and professional engagement. Serves as an active and influential change agent securing the high levels of clinical engagement from all members of the clinical care delivery team (leaders, nurses, providers, inter-professional team members, unlicensed assistive personnel).
  • Promotes a culture of evidence‑based practice and clinical inquiry. Supports the implementation of the shared governance framework and professional practice model.
  • Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence‑based practice and nursing research initiatives.
  • Facilitates dissemination of nursing outcomes through presentations, reports, and publications.
  • Collaborates with Nursing Education to ensure clinical standards are embedded in orientation, ongoing education, and competency validation. Identifies practice gaps and supports targeted education and competency development initiatives.

Experience Required

  • 6-10 years progressive leadership, working knowledge of NDNQI, and evidence-based practice

Education Requirements

  • MSN required; DNP preferred

License/Certification Requirements

  • NJ RN license
  • American Heart Association BLS
  • ANCC specialty certification preferred
