Short Description

 The Oncology Data Specialist 1 (ODS1) performs assigned operations of the Oncology Data Services Department to meet the requirements of MD Anderson at Cooper University Health, the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), The Joint Commission, and state regulations. The work done by an ODS1 contributes to maintaining oncology related accreditation status and ensures compliance with the New Jersey State Department of Health oncology data reporting legal requirements. Oncology Data Specialist 1 main functions are abstracting, case finding, performing follow up, participating in tumor board coordination and other duties as assigned.

Experience Required

 

  • 1-3 years’ experience working in a hospital cancer registry that included abstracting, case finding, and follow up preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Required
  • Must have Associate’s degree including clinical practicum in a CoC accredited hospital.

License/Certification Requirements

  • Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) or ODS-ready

Special Requirements

  • Communication – Ability to communicate with patients, visitors and coworkers
  • Emerging abstracting, casefinding, and follow up skills. Ability to abstract 3 or more body sites proficiently utilizing standard setting resources.
  • Experience using Metriq registry software and Epic medical record.
  • Experience with Commission on Cancer and other accreditation program compliance standards.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in the following computer applications preferred: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Ability to work remotely or onsite.
