Assists the Clinical Director in coordinating interdepartmental and ancillary activities to ensure quality, cost-effective patient care. Assists the Clinical Manager in directing the preparation and maintenance of patient?s clinical record, including nursing and medical treatments and related services provided by the Registered Nurse. Assists the Clinical Director in leading the patient care team to meet the needs of the customers and to achieve departmental objectives. Assists the Clinical Director in ensuring that the staff participates in educational activities and the evaluation process to enhance their personal growth and development. Acting as a liaison between nursing and medical staff, serving as a problem-solver and mediator for positive change; develops and maintains effective intra and interdepartmental relationships.

Provides clinical medical physics services for the Department of Radiation Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper
Leads medical physics research effort including: developing collaborations with other institutions (e.g., Rowan, UT MD Anderson, et al.) and industry, seeking extramural funding for research efforts and personnel, mentoring and supporting academic growth of staff and resident physicists, graduate student advising, and managing the medical physics research lab.
Participate in resident and student education.
Support and assist physicians, dosimetrists, therapists, and other colleagues.
Clinical medical physics services must be performed at a high standard and include: 1) ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice recommendations, 2) equipment calibration, quality assurance, and maintenance, 3) treatment plan review and approval, 4) managing equipment and software issues including troubleshooting and engaging required IST, service engineering, and help desk support, 5) implementation of new technology including acceptance, commissioning, process development, and training, 6) continuous evaluation and improvement of departmental processes and capabilities within the purview of medical physics.

4. Reinforces education of patient and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues.

Direct responsibility for the daily operations of assigned department(s); including but not limited to: oversight of daily Clinical operations, recruitment, retention, compliance with policies and procedures, support ongoing education of staff and budget responsibility of unit/department.
- Directs and coordinates effective operations of the unit/department with 24/7 responsibility to ensure continuity of care and oversight of other management functions.

Prepares staffing plan, reviews and approves work schedules to ensure adequate staff coverage around the clock. Projects staffing needs, flex staff when needed to work within metrics; interviews and assist with hiring the right employees to fill vacant positions; resolves staffing issues. Monitors patient care and analyzes patient care patterns and initiates quality improvement procedures to enhance patient services; ensures a safe, diagnostic/therapeutic environment. Initiates patient placement to ensure the delivery of optimal patient care and arranges for continuity of care when warranted by patient condition. Supervises the provision of personalized, coordinated quality services responsive to changing health care trends.
Coordinates and establishes technical care practices; uses selected published practice theory as a framework for coordinating patient care and by providing theory based imaging practice information in unusual or complex patient care situations. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Maintains records on departmental personnel activities and processes. Uses information systems to retrieve, implement, and retain essential records and services. Ensures all appropriate Bills/charges are resolved at end of shifts. Maintains integrity and confidentiality of management and clinical information. Actively participates in ongoing or ad hoc committees or task forces to identify and resolve patient care issues. This is a working Lead position. Performs MRI studies for all patient populations as needed and is responsible for overseeing daily activities within assigned department to maintain patient flow, ensure maximum staff productivity, and assure that services provided is of the highest clinical quality. Will serve as content expert for staff and Administration by resolving/answering technical issues or concerns which may arise. Serves as point person for completion of ACR Accreditation applications and submission of images and QA documents for all Cooper MRI departments. Provides clinical oversight for MRI protocols and infection control as it relates to high level disinfection.
Assists manager/Administration with pertinent feedback for the completion of annual staff evaluations. Oversees training and competency of all new hires and provides feedback for 90 day probationary evaluations. Clarifies performance expectations with employees and provides ongoing feedback, to staff, on a regular basis. Develops competencies for staff members and ensures that all staff are competent in all aspects of department positions. Assists manager in dealing with inappropriate behaviors or actions by participating in coaching sessions of staff in a direct and confidential manner. All progressive discipline of staff members are handled by the Manager or Director.
Obtains appropriate documentation from technical staff as well as participate in Primary Sourcing to ensure staff are in compliance with State, National Accrediting Agencies, as well as compliance with all of Cooper’s policies and corporate compliance requirements to include Annual Safety Training, PPD, Fit Testing and safety across the continuum.
Completes all staff schedule appropriately in the hospital and outpatient sites, completes payroll responsibilities in Kronos, and ensures that department is staffed to volumes, at all times. Demonstrates flex scheduling. Support individual and departmental achievement through strong and effective employee enganement and the use of recognition methods.
Assists the Manager in Rounding on all staff employees. Completes weekly hand hygiene validation and PPE survey. Assures the department is inspection ready at all times by enforcing the Radiology Cleaning and Disinfection Policy.
Ability to respond and investigate EARS reporting incidences.

- This position serves as a key resource to the Administrative Director, Surgical Services, as well as Senior Leadership.
- Provides ongoing instruction and information for Revenue Cycle staff and others as appropriate on prior authorization requirements, insurance participation, ICD10 and CPT coding.
- Works closely with other Institutes in Revenue Cycle to resolve issues.
- Monitors revenue cycle work-queue management across Surgical Services Institute (SSI).
- Surgical Services liaison to coding contractors (McKesson and Conifer).
- Streamline & standardize benefit verification, referral management and prior authorization process for surgical procedures performed by SSI.
- Responds to external and internal audits for government and private payers.
- Monitors coding productivity across SSI.
- Attends hospital committee meetings to provide information on coding guidelines and documentation requirements.
- Has knowledge of all computer applications used by coders to assist as problems are encountered, including Anesthesia module.
